The GuideFred Krieter is a lifelong Alaskan. He has fished in many different regions of Alaska but his heart is always on the Kenai River. With over 30 years of experience fishing the Kenai, Fred knows these waters like the back of his hand. In fact, he landed his first fish on the Kenai at age 5: a monster 65 pound Kenai River King Salmon.
As a Kenai River Guide the learning never stops. Fred is constantly experimenting with his custom, handmade flies and lures; perfecting what the fish are looking for. This local knowledge of the river and the fish make it easy for Fred to share his passion and enthusiasm for Alaska with his clients. He has made many lifelong friends that make the trip to fish with him every year. A good time on the river is guaranteed; the trophy fish are a bonus! Fred is licensed with the State of Alaska as a Sport Fishing Guide and with the Coast Guard as a licensed Charter Boat Captain. He is also a member of the Kenai River Professional Guide Association. |

The Fish
Sockeye Salmon begin showing up in the Kenai River in early June with the run peeking around mid to end of July. These Salmon are fished usually from the bank swinging a fly. Runs of 25,000 to 100,000 fish entering the river a day are common with an annual total number of one million sockeye. Limits for Sockeye Salmon are three per day per person.

The River
The Middle Kenai River is one of the best and most productive fisheries Alaska has to offer. This section of the Kenai River is over 30 miles long and provides anglers with fantastic opportunities to catch world-class trophy fish. The following is a breakdown of the different sections we fish on the Middle Kenai River.
KENAI NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
This section of the Kenai River flows out of Skilak Lake and slowly winds down stream before it enters the Nap Town Rapids. This section of the Kenai is very wide with tons of submerged river structures and is home to one of the biggest King, Sockeye, Pink and Silver Salmon spawning grounds on the Kenai. With all this food it is also home to some of the largest Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden on the planet. Trout size usually average between 16 to 18 inches, but fish 25 to 30+ inches are caught and released regularly. More Rainbow Trout in the 12 to 15 pound class have been caught and released in this section of the river then any other river in the World.
Rainbow Heaven guides are on the water every day and know all the fishing tactics and techniques for catching these large Rainbow Trout that inhabit and migrate into this section of the river. This section is primarily fished from the boat, however during the Sockeye Salmon runs and during the early season and late fall there are opportunities for bank fishing. |
